West Jordan Patients Ask: Where Can I Get EECP?

That question comes up often, and the honest answer is that very few EECP providers exist anywhere in Utah. For West Jordan residents, our clinic in Draper is one of the closest. It is not in West Jordan, and we will never pretend otherwise, but it is close enough that many West Jordan patients complete a full course without much trouble.

Approximate drive time

From central West Jordan, the clinic is roughly 10 miles away, about 15 to 25 minutes by car. Common routes:

  • From west of Bangerter Highway: Bangerter south to 12600 South or 13400 South, east to I-15, then south one exit to 12300 South and east to Draper Parkway.
  • From neighborhoods near Redwood Road: 9000 South or 10600 South east to I-15, then south to Draper. Often the faster option.
  • From the Jordan Landing area: 7800 South to I-15 can work well outside rush hour.

All times are approximate and depend heavily on traffic, especially on Bangerter and I-15 at commute hours.

Transit

The TRAX Red Line runs through West Jordan. Getting to Draper means transferring to the Blue Line, whose last stop is Draper Town Center. Draper Town Center station, the southern end of the TRAX Blue Line at 1131 E. Pioneer Road, is about a quarter mile from our clinic, roughly a five-minute walk (approximate). It works, but it is a long ride, so most West Jordan patients drive or get a ride from family.

What happens at a session

  1. We check your blood pressure, pulse and weight and ask how you have been feeling.
  2. You change into snug athletic pants we provide and lie on a padded table.
  3. Cuffs are wrapped around your calves, thighs and buttocks.
  4. EKG leads time the cuffs so they inflate while your heart rests between beats and deflate just before it pumps.
  5. You relax for about an hour while the cuffs work in rhythm, then go about your day.

What EECP can and cannot do

The FDA has cleared EECP for chronic stable angina and certain patients with heart failure. Research suggests the rhythmic pressure improves blood flow back to the heart, reduces its workload, and may support the growth of small collateral vessels. Many patients in studies reported fewer angina episodes and better stamina.

What it cannot do matters just as much. EECP is not a cure, does not clear blockages, does not replace your medications and is not right for everyone. Any change to your medications should come from your own doctor.

Your existing care

Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley, formerly Jordan Valley Medical Center, is located in West Jordan. Many residents also see cardiologists through Intermountain Health, including at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, or through University of Utah Health. Thrive EECP is independent and not affiliated with any of these hospitals. Please discuss EECP with the doctor who manages your heart care.

Fitting 35 sessions into a busy week

West Jordan is a family-centered city, and many of our callers are still working, caring for a spouse or helping with grandchildren. We know that a seven-week schedule is a real commitment. We will work with you on appointment times. If you miss a day, it does not undo your progress; we simply reschedule. Since appointments fill and there is sometimes a waiting list, we ask for 24 hours notice when you need to cancel.

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Have I had stents, bypass or other procedures, and do I still have symptoms?
  • What are my current medications, and has my cardiologist mentioned EECP?
  • Do I have any history of blood clots, irregular heart rhythm or valve problems?
  • What schedule could I realistically keep for seven weeks?

Safety screening

EECP is not appropriate for everyone. People with certain irregular heart rhythms, significant aortic valve leakage (aortic insufficiency), a recent blood clot in the legs, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe peripheral artery disease, or who are pregnant may not be candidates. We review your history and medications before you begin.

Treatment takes place only at our clinic at 1111 E. Draper Parkway, Suite 118, Draper, UT 84020. We do not have an office in West Jordan.
